Are you looking to try something new and completely different to what you would see in a typical run of the mill gym. If so CityGym’s powerlifting for beginners is the course for you.
Powerlifting is a strength sport comprised of three moves. The squat, the bench press and the deadlift. Performed in this order on a competition or “meet” day. Powerlifting was born in the 1950’s in the US and the UK. Once called The Odd Lifts, these lifts were trained in order to bring up overall strength for Olympic Lifting. The 50’s saw a decline in Olympic lifting and powerlifting had it’s time in the light. From here federations and competitions were born and the first comp was held in September 1964. The rest is history!
We like to honour the history of powerlifting by teaching people about the sport from the ground up. Hammering home a fundamentals course like no other and getting lifters as strong as they can. Our guys and girls lifting club was set up in November 2014 to provide a suitable and comfortable environment for the people of Limerick to grow stronger. Since then, they have spread like wildfire and become Limerick's favourite lifting spot. We provide programs to get stronger, an atmosphere to motivate and more chalk and good music than you can handle.
Classes run every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5:30 - 6:30pm and from 6:30 - 7:30pm
